Remuneration: $41.14-$54.74 per hour + superannuation + leave loading.
About the role

The Research Governance Officer is responsible for the development and implementation of a wide range of policies and procedures relating to the governance of research at Calvary Mater Newcastle.

Your main duties will include:
Making recommendations for the authorisation/non-authorisation of research applications. The Research Governance Officer monitors the research budget and financial contracts and records to ensure that the needs of Calvary Mater Newcastle (CMN) are met. Provide input, interpret, monitor and evaluate risk and risk-management mechanisms such as research contracts, reporting processes including study milestones and safety reporting.
To implement a program for monitoring research conducted within CMN, including on-site audits.
Embed the National Clinical Trials Governance Framework and assist with research related activities during Hospital accreditation.
Implement NSW Ministry of Health led initiatives and operate within mandatory national and NSW Ministry of Health research support systems.
About you
Ability to work autonomously and be part of a team.
Appropriate tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or demonstrated equivalent, relevant experience.
Demonstrated broad understanding of the health and medical research environment in NSW and Australia.
Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and consultative skills and demonstrated capacity to manage sensitive issues.
Detailed understanding of the research ethics and governance processes and how they related to different types of research.
Demonstrated high level capacity to use office computing applications including word processing, spreadsheets and databases.
Sound understanding of the legislation, codes and guidelines relevant to clinical and research ethics, and in particular the NHMRC National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research, relevant privacy acts and guidelines, the Human Tissue Act, and the Therapeutic Goods Act as it relates to the use of medications in human research.
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships including those with senior management and other key internal and external stakeholders.
