Primary objective

Lead the delivery of contemporary capability projects and programs, assisting the Department of Industry, Tourism and

Trade workforce meet the department’s objectives, whilst contributing to a culture of integrity.

Context statement

The Capability team leads and coordinates the department’s strategic planning, program evaluation and workforce capability.

The team undertakes research, analysis and performance reporting that contributes to the department’s objective of

achieving a $40 billion economy by 2030.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Lead and grow the department’s early careers programs - ensuring excellence, coordinating entry, performance and

reporting.

2. Maintain a high level of customer focus and engagement with managers and staff, always with the aim of improving the

department’s workforce capability.

3. Manage the planning, development and reporting of initiatives, including the Aboriginal Employment and Career

Development Strategy, State of the Service, People Matters Surveys and other organisational capability Plans as required

4. Work in partnership with the Executive Director, Department of Digital and Corporate Development and Office of the

Commissioner for Public Employment to ensure the department’s responsibilities under service agreements are met.

5. Provide quality reports and papers for the Departments Executive Management Group, and Board of Management.

6. Provide secretariat support for the People and Culture Management Committee and the Young Leaders Group.

7. Assist with department submissions, reporting, monitoring and continuous improvement of program logic and program

evaluation to support the Treasurer’s Directions.

8. Analyse and report on data that informs strategic planning, policy and performance monitoring.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. High quality project management skills, working autonomously and with colleagues to meet deadlines.

2. Sound analytical and reporting skills using contemporary reporting methods.

3. Experience in and contemporary knowledge of organisational capability development and human resource management

strategies.

4. Ability and experience in interpreting and applying legislation, regulations, policies, guidelines, standards and procedures

within a financial and human resource management environment.

5. Ability to identify ways to leverage the value of existing and innovative initiatives to achieve department objectives.

6. High level diplomacy, influencing and collaborative skills.

7. Demonstrated ability to respond to changing situations, set priorities, meet deadlines and produce work of a high

standard both individually and part of a team environment.

Desirable

1. Relevant tertiary qualifications in a relevant field, such as human resources or project management.

2. Knowledge of and ability to use a variety of systems such as PowerBi, BOXI-HR, eRecruit, Mylearning and SharePoint.
