About the OPPORTUNITY

We currently have a rewarding opportunity to join us as a Commercial Officer within our Maritime Sustainment line of business. You will be supporting our Commercial Function working on an exciting project where you will have the opportunity to learn more and grow your career. You will also be working with a great team and have access to our flexibility options such as working a 9-day fortnight and hybrid working. This role will be based out of our Garden Island or office in Sydney.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Review, draft, negotiate and finalise contracts and commercial agreements and support complex contracts
  • Manage commercial contracts and the commercial elements of the Life Cycle Management and Request for Bid Approval process
  • Contribute to the preparation and presentation of major Life Cycle Management reviews and Request for Bid Approval process, ensuring the necessary approvals are obtained within the governance of the operational framework
  • Adopt clear understandings with suppliers of both technical and commercial issues to ensure that business arrangements minimise risk. Support review of complex terms and conditions to ensure that BAE Systems Australia Business interests are protected
  • Support Procurement and Supply Chain colleagues in the preparation of sub-contract terms and conditions as required
  • Manage the implementation of procedures and controls within the specified area to ensure compliance with commercial policies
  • Work with internal and external legal advisors to ensure all contracts have the necessary legal input/governance, as required
  • Support the Commercial Manager and other members of the team
  • Understand the financial and pricing requirements of commercial contracts
  • Focus on developing and maintaining customer relationships both internally and externally
  • Commitment to meet deadlines and targets
  • Responsive to the needs and wants of the customer by understanding their requirements, through researched understanding, open discussion and candid clarification questions, influence where required
  • Maintain Commercial Management Plans
  • Supporting Intellectual Property management
  • Other tasks as are required from time to time

About YOU

You'll have:

  • Excellent attention to details with organization skills, together with a high degree of motivation, initiative and enthusiasm.
  • Well-developed self-management skills and demonstrated ability to work under your own initiative to deliver outputs to time, quality and cost
  • A curious mind-set and ability to integrate and extract information
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential, including the ability to communicate with staff at all levels and from a range of disciplines
  • An ability to work as part of a team or independently with little supervision and guidance and using their own experience, judgement and initiative
  • An ability to prioritise workload and deliver in a timely manner and lean in as required
  • An understanding and knowledge of commercial skills, commercial policy, principles and processes
  • Team orientation with a high level of written and oral communication skills including the ability to communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders from all levels and from a range of disciplines
  • An ability to build and maintain excellent relationships with Functions across the business
  • An ability to influence internal and external customers and stakeholders
  • Computer literacy, with intermediate knowledge of MS Suite. Familiarity with tools like SharePoint and Oracle is desirable, enhancing efficiency in data management and reporting processes
  • Current NV1 Government Security Clearance (very desirable)
  • Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic In Arms (ITAR) regulations
