As a System Engineer, you will utilise variety of engineering practices along with basic analytical tools such as SQL to achieve Business outcomes. The role provides a great opportunity to be part of platform uplift and adaptation into cloud.

RBS Customer Remediation crew is responsible for determining the root cause of issues, implementing control mitigants with the Line of Business and ensuring Customers are fully refunded for any Bank error. We work closely with Group Customer Advocacy & Remediation (GCAR), Internal Audit and our Risk partners to deliver on our customer promises with Retail Bank ensuring the remediation experience is positive for our customers.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop monitoring capability for existing jobs

  • Migrate existing batch jobs into AWS cloud environment

  • Take on support and technical troubleshooting responsibility for existing systems

  • Work on ways to automate and improve development and release processes.

  • Drive continuous improvements for the system and team processes

  • Participate as a member of the systems development team with minimal supervision

  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines

We're interested in hearing from people who:

  • Possesses hands-on technical experience working in a public cloud environment (AWS is ideal)

  • Are passionate about Cloud/DevOps/Automation and possess a keen interest to solve complex problems in a systematic approach

  • Possesses hands-on technical experience on SQL & Python

Technical Skills:

We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don't expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these (or equivalents) will set you up for success in this team;

  • Experience with AWS, particularly using CloudFormation (Infrastructure as a code)

  • Experience with foundational AWS services (EC2, ECS, Lambda, Secrets Manager, ASG, VPC etc.).

  • Experience with programming/automating repetitive tasks in Python

  • Desirable experience with native AWS data storage capabilities such as S3, RDS, Aurora DB

  • Hands on experience on SQL

  • Understanding of DevOps Best Practices: Logging, Monitoring, Security.

  • Investigating the current IT system, documenting user needs/current state and recommending improvements

  • Testing and fixing any batch job failures

  • Providing technical support for ongoing system maintenance and troubleshooting any issues

  • Monitoring systems to ensure efficient operation

  • Experience with designing and building Docker containers.

  • Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g Git, TeamCity, Artifactory, Octopus, Jenkins, etc.)
