About us

Legal Aid NSW helps people with their legal problems. We can help people with most areas criminal law, family law and every day civil law legal issues. We give legal advice, help at court and do family dispute resolution. We can do this over the telephone or at one of our 28 offices.


About the role
The role of Project Officer will support the establishment and pilot of a new Respectful Workplace Support Team to embed Legal Aid NSW as a respectful workplace, and to support Legal Aid NSW staff and managers to resolve workplace conflict and culture issues.
This role will provide project and other support to the Respectful Workplace Support Team to provide advice, guidance and support to staff and managers, facilitate the resolution of culture and conflict issues in the workplace, and reduce the number of issues through training, policies and other proactive measures to drive positive change.
About you
We are looking for a committed and collaborative individual to support the establishment, planning, and implementation of workplace transformations across Legal Aid NSW, to resolve and reduce workplace conflict and culture issues. You will be a team player who is flexible, responsive and self-motivated.

You will have demonstrated strong project management skills to ensure deadlines are met, with limited resources and competing priorities. You will possess excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills to establish and maintain stakeholder relationships across the organisation. You will use research and data analysis to provide recommendations and inform project planning. You have a deep understanding of identifying and addressing discrimination and its effects.


We may use this recruitment to create a talent pool for similar ongoing or temporary vacancies we have over the next 18 months.

The essential requirements for this role
You must:
  • be willing to do a Criminal Record Check and/or Working with Children Check
  • hold Australian or NZ citizenship, Australian Permanent Residency (for ongoing vacancies) or a valid visa to work in Australia (for temporary vacancies)

Key knowledge and experience

  • Experience in managing workplace conflict and culture issues and developing and promoting policies and practices to reduce workplace conflict and culture issues.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification or relevant work experience. Psychology, social work or another field providing a solid base for leading the reduction and resolution of workplace issues is desirable.
