We are currently seeking an experienced PO3 - Agricultural Economist to join our team in Mareeba and Rockhampton, QLD

We are seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic, and motivated individual for PO3 – Agricultural Economist role to contribute to a government role.

One position is to be in Rockhampton, and the other position in Mareeba.

Contract Details

Hourly rate: PO3.1 is $61.49 (in line with guide)

Contract Ending

  • February 2025 (with possibility of extension) for the Mareeba role.
  • 30 June 2025 (with possibility of extension) for the Rockhampton role.

Responsibilities

  • Use appropriate economic methodologies to undertake economic analyses of contemporary agricultural production and policy issues.
  • Provide training to graziers and beef extension officers in the use of economic decision support tools.
  • Visit producers to gather property and herd information to evaluate the implications to farm profitability.
  • Utilise economic results and findings to prepare case studies, reports, papers, factsheets, and other communication material.
  • Present economic findings and other information to farmers.
  • Undertake required projects and activities to ensure project is delivered on time.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with all stakeholders and other government agencies.

Essential Skills:

  • Applied experience in agriculture and/or a passion to advance the agricultural sector will be highly regarded.
  • Good time management and organisational skills to assist in the coordination of multiple recruitment processes concurrently.
  • Well-developed Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word skills.
  • Ability to use judgement and discretion with confidential information.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical skills

Mandatory requirements to this role are:

  • Class C drivers’ licence.
