About the Role

As a Male Support Worker, you'll play a crucial role in positively influencing the life of a participant in his early 30s with an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI). Your primary responsibility will involve offering essential assistance and support to the participant in Supported Independent Living (SIL) and active community engagement. This multifaceted role includes aiding the participant with daily activities, promoting independence, and fostering community involvement. Comprehensive training and development will be provided to empower you to excel in this position.

We are actively seeking candidates demonstrating flexibility and readiness to accommodate a diverse schedule, including day, evening, overnight shifts, weekend assignments, and sleepovers. The role requires availability to work on public holidays. Applicants are expected to commit to a minimum of 32 hours per week. Please note that the initial six (6) months of employment will serve as a probationary period.

Responsibilities

  • Support the participant with daily activities that align with their individual support plan.
  • Assist the participant in engaging with the community, promoting socialisation and inclusivity.
  • Provide emotional support and encouragement to enhance the participant's confidence and well-being.
  • Promote independence and personal growth by empowering the participant in decision-making.
  • Ensure the participant's safety and well-being through attentive care and vigilance.
  • Collaborate with the participant on mealtime management and preparation.
  • Utilise excellent communication skills to build rapport and meaningful connections.
  • Perform manual tasks and provide necessary manual handling support as required.
  • Utilise computer skills, including Microsoft Office, for accurate reporting and documentation.

Requirements

  • Possess a valid driver's licence and own a registered vehicle with comprehensive car insurance.
  • Have access to a working smartphone to facilitate communication and coordination.
  • Hold a current NDIS Worker Screening check for providing care and support.
  • Successfully complete the NDIS Worker's Orientation Module to ensure adherence to best practices.
  • Provide a National Police Clearance or demonstrate a willingness to obtain one.
  • Possess a current First Aid certificate to effectively respond to any potential emergencies. ( HLTAID009 must have 6 months validation left / HLTAID011 / HLTAID010)
  • Provide evidence of a Covid-19 Vaccination certificate or Immunisation Statement.
  • Hold an Australian passport or relevant visa, confirming your eligibility to work in Australia.

Additional Skills and Qualifications

  • Showcase experience in mealtime management and preparation, ensuring the participant's dietary needs are met.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills to effectively connect with the participant and facilitate interactions.
  • Proficiency in manual handling techniques, ensuring the participant's physical safety and comfort.
  • Utilise your specialised knowledge of Acquired Brain Injuries (ABI) to implement tailored strategies.
  • Showcase computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office, to maintain accurate records and document support interventions.
