THE ROLE

The Learning Support Coordinator – Senior School, is a professional responsible for managing and coordinating inclusive practices services to help students, particularly those with special educational needs or learning challenges, achieve success.

The Learning Support Coordinator – Senior School provides direct leadership of the Educational Assistants working in Senior School classrooms.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

The Learning Support Coordinator is a key member of the Inclusive Practices Team, responsible for providing assistance and support to students who require additional help in their learning process. The main responsibilities include:

1. Leadership

- Member of the Heads of Department Team

  • Contribute to direction of the Inclusive Practices College Leadership Team
  • Provide leadership of the Inclusive Practices Operations Team
  • Provide leadership of Inclusive Practices to the Senior School.
  • Provide leadership to the Senior School Learning Support Team
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of initiatives for continuous improvement in delivery of learning support in the Senior School
  • Support the alignment of Senior School Learning Support programmes to the College’s mission statement, values and strategic priorities

2. Student Assessment

  • Identify students who may require additional support by conducting assessments, observing behaviours, and reviewing academic performance.
  • Coordinates the development of ILP for students in the Senior School, in consultation with staff and parents
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and specialists to develop Individualised Learning Plans (ILPs) for students with learning adjustments.
  • Reports to Dean of Studies – Senior School to recommend on all adjustments for Year 7-12 assessments.
  • Provides recommendations for the allocation of adjustments for students with provisions for HSC, trial exams and other student examinations/assessments.
  • Oversees the HSC Disability Provisions process for students in Years 11-12.
  • Provides recommendations to Dean of Studies for disability provisions and coordinates the logistics (readers and scribes) for all assessments in Year 7-12.
  • Coordinate ILP interview periods in Term 1 and 3
  • Provide individual assessment for students are required (e.g. administer the WIAT assessments)
  • Coordinate the delivery of evidence-based Learning Support in the Senior School

3. Coordination of Support Services

  • Attend triage meetings with Heads of House, Heads of Department and College Counsellor to update on new and existing case load students
  • Coordinate fortnightly meetings with the Heads of House (in pairs)
  • Coordinate and facilitate support services and allied health providers, such as, for students with adjustments.
  • Ensure that students have access to appropriate resources and materials to support their learning.
  • Oversee the maintenance Senior School learning support resources and assessment tools

4. Team Leadership and Coordination

  • Work closely with teachers, Educational Assistants, and other professionals to create a cohesive support network for students.
  • Lead and actively participate in team meetings to discuss student progress and strategies.
  • Coordinate the Educational Assistant Level 4 for each Senior School Stage
  • Meet regularly with Educational Assistant to provide feedback and direction.
  • Encourage and develop a culture of strong partnerships between staff, students and parents.

5. Coordination of NCCD Requirements

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of student progress.
  • Regularly monitor and evaluate the progress of students with ILPs, making adjustments to support plans as necessary
  • Coordinate staff to ensure all records of adjustment for students are maintained on SEQTA and SharePoint
  • Work collaboratively with the Head of Senior School to provide relevant information for the preparation of Disability Provisions and NCCD for students with learning needs
  • Coordinate and lead the NCCD team, with the Learning Support Coordinator – Junior School for students eligible for NCCD funding

6. Communication

  • Provide professional and punctual communication to parents regarding the progress of their child with regards to ILP or services provided.
  • Attend Senior School staff meetings to update on operational and strategic details that directly impact Senior School staff and students.
  • Collaborate with external agencies, if necessary, to provide specialised support for students.
  • Attend new enrolment interviews with Head of Senior School as required to provide expert assessment of students identified with learning adjustments.

7. Professional Development

  • Stay current with best practices in the field of education and special education.
  • Attend relevant workshops, training sessions, and conferences to improve skills and knowledge.
  • Facilitate professional learning within the team
  • Provide recommendations to Head of Senior School for proposed professional learning opportunities for the Coordinator or Educational Assistants

8. Advocacy for Students

  • Oversee an environment that promotes the positive wellbeing and care of students.
  • Act as an advocate for students with social, physical, cognitive or educational adjustments, ensuring they receive appropriate accommodations and resources.
  • Support the transition of students from the Junior school to the Senior school.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's of Education degree or above
  • Qualification in Special Education or related field.
  • NESA Accreditation Proficient or above.
  • Current First Aid
  • Current NSW Working With Childrens Check

EXPERIENCE

  • Prior experience in education or special education is highly desirable.
  • Experience in NCCD processes is preferred
  • Experience working with students who have diverse learning needs is an advantage.

SKILLS

  • Knowledge of learning disabilities and various educational support strategies
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and collaborate with various stakeholders

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Experience as a Learning Support Teacher in a secondary school setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership of a learning support team in a school setting is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated understanding of HSC Disability Provisions.
  • Demonstrated understanding of NCCD funding and levels of adjustment.

REMUNERATION

Terms and Conditions of employment will be in accordance with the Anglican Schools Commission Inc. NSW Enterprise Agreement 2023. Remuneration will be determined by the Principal according to qualifications and experience.
