About The Role

This position is a full-time role in the Executive Leadership team and based at the Moruya Administration Office. The Chief Operating Office (COO) will provide leadership for their Division and contribute to major organisational projects and initiatives.

Your main duties will include:

  • Providing strategic communication and media advice to key stakeholders including the Mayor, General Manager, Directors and staff.
  • Coordinating and overseeing cross-Council strategic projects and working collaboratively with the leadership and executive services team as well as staff to deliver outcomes.
  • Leading communications and engagement across Council and with the community while managing the relationship between Council and local media.
  • Leading a strategic and coordinated approach to secure funding opportunities for Council.
  • Identifying public relations opportunities and challenges and providing strategic, values-based issue management advice by delivering effective and timely communication actions.


Salary information

An attractive salary package will be negotiated with the successful candidate, inclusive of a cash component, Corporate Manager Allowance, fully maintained Council salary packaged vehicle (including full private usage) and 11% superannuation.

A satisfactory outcome as a result of a National Criminal History Record Check is required for appointment to this position.

About You

You have relevant tertiary qualifications and a substantial track record in successfully managing the communications and public relations function of a large organisation. Your exceptional communication skills set you apart from the rest and you have proven that you can successfully lead and motivate employees. Your application will further demonstrate the following:

  • High level experience in communications and media management, project management, stakeholder engagement, grant funding and strategic management
  • Highly developed collegiate and influencing skills with demonstrated ability to work in partnership with executive managers and external stakeholders in support of the achievement of business objectives.
  • High level people management skills and experience in successfully leading a team through ambiguity and change, in a high pressure situation to achieve Council outcomes.
  • An understanding of the issues and challenges faced by Local Government in delivering and promoting services in a politicised environment.
  • High level communication and interpersonal skills including the capacity to negotiate effectively, to influence and persuade verbally and in writing, and the ability to understand and meet clients’ needs in a highly organised and flexible manner.
  • Experience in planning, monitoring and managing a budget.
  • Community and outcomes minded professional with well developed knowledge of the principles of equal opportunity diversity and workplace health and safety.
