The Opportunity
We are currently recruiting a Volunteer Educator to join our Metro Clinical Education team. This is a 6-Month Fixed Term Part-Time role (possibility of extension) and will be responsible for effectively training and assessing our Event Health Services volunteers in pre-hospital care and clinical skills to produce competent and confident St John Volunteer Officers.
This position will primarily involve working from Friday to Monday, with a rostered schedule of 2 days per week or 4 days per fortnight, totalling 18.75 hours per week or 37.5 hours per fortnight.
What you’ll do:
Engage volunteers using a variety of adult learning styles and principles.
Ensure appropriate lesson preparation is undertaken prior to commencing a class.
Educate and teach practical skills and theory in accordance with St John’s Clinical Practice Guidelines to volunteers.
Facilitate and present training content using contemporary learning methods and a wide range of media types.
Record training information using administration systems.
Monitor student progress throughout the course and support the development of volunteers through additional training, evaluation and constructive feedback.
Follow assessment principles and guidelines according to volunteer education frameworks and assessment standards.
Ensure student assessment procedures are thoroughly prepared and students are aware of assessment requirements.
Remain fair and unbiased when assessing students.
What you’ll need:
Relevant experience in teaching and assessing adults.
Experience in a volunteer role (desirable).
Established understanding of adult learning styles and principles.
Strong, articulate and comprehensible communication skills.
Extensive knowledge of basic clinical skills.
Excellent organisational and time management skills.
Basic understanding of Microsoft PowerPoint.
Basic use of an iPad and other IT systems.
