About the Role

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing leadership and coordination for all SE HSE matters that is consistent with the Project and overall company requirements.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to the HSE Advisors ensuring all GEC and client requirements are met.
  • Develop initiatives to ensure that all activities undertaken by the HSE Team are carried out in accordance with GEC’s Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Ensure that all actions generated from audits, hazards reports and incident investigations are closed out within timeframes.
  • Active participation and promotion of positive behaviour safety practices.
  • Coordinate the completion of Project HSE reporting in accordance with GEC and project standards and timing.
  • Manage the compliance with GECs policies, procedures, and directives.
  • Always promote a positive HSE Culture.
  • Manage compliance with environmental management practices that minimise the effects of the operation on the environment.
  • Participate in active promotion of environmentally responsible work practices.
  • Identify opportunities to improve safety standards and assist with close out of agreed actions.
  • Partake in regular environmental inspections in accordance with the project schedule.
  • Participate in safety audits as per project schedule.
  • Follow safety procedures and systems and assist with the enforcement of these across the Project.
  • Partake in regular task observations and assist with educating the workforce on industry leading safety standards.
  • Assist in compliance with the relevant statutory requirements and legislation.
  • Partake in regular workplace inspections.
  • Manage the HSE operations through the development and implementation of short-term work and resource plans and targets (including strategies and actions) consistent with the overall GECs management plans and directions.
  • Participate in all field leadership activities and regularly contribute to pre-shift meetings and toolbox talks.
  • Support the management of compliance with HSE training requirements.
  • Carry out and apply Risk Management practices in accordance with GEC requirements.
  • Provide scheduled and ad hoc reports on HSE performance and trends.
  • Facilitate early intervention of injury management and assist the Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator, with return-to-work for injured workers at site in accordance with GEC and project requirements.
Desired Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role you must hold the following traits, skills, and qualifications:

  • Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (minimum)
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment TAE40110/TAE40116 (Desired)
  • White Card
  • D&A Testing
  • Operate and Maintain 4WD Vehicle RIIVEH305
  • ICAM Lead Investigator
  • Rehabilitation and Return to Work
  • Lead Auditor
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Suite (Outlook/Word/Excel/PowerPoint/SharePoint
  • Must have eligible Australian working rights
  • Minimum 10 years' experience within the health and safety field in heavy construction, engineering, or mining.
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant legislation and guidelines across workplace health, safety, and environment.
  • Sound administration skills with the ability to use computers to assist with work including word processing, spreadsheets, and database management.
  • Proficient with various risk assessment tools.
  • Familiarity with Project Management methodologies.
  • Meets all team deadlines and responsibilities and values opinions, welcomes newcomers, and promotes a team atmosphere.
  • Good listening skills, builds strong relationships, is flexible/open minded, solicits performance feedback and handles constructive criticism. Conducts positive negotiations, ability to compromise, handles conflict, seeks common ground, articulates own and other goals, stays focused on positive outcome.
  • Meets commitments, works independently, accepts accountability for actions, maintains confidentiality, supports company values.
  • Experience in training coordination and administration is an advantage.
  • Communicates well both verbally and in writing, creates accurate and punctual reports, delivers presentations, shares information and ideas with others.
