About the role

The registered nurse supports excellence in nursing care and patient outcomes, is a competent clinician who provides nursing care with clinical competence and capability, optimising access to care services. The registered nurse works in partnership with the multidisciplinary team to provide person and family centred quality, safe patient care.

The Registered Nurse Service Response Team - Prison Health Services provides contemporary, evidence-based nursing services and demonstrates competence in the provision of nursing care as specified by achievement of the standards of practice and registration requirements from the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). This is evidenced by educational preparation, continuing professional development, adhering to relevant legislation and the context of care.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Contemporary clinical knowledge in the area of primary health care nursing, delivering competent nursing care in complex situations while providing support to other team members. Clinical experience in corrections, primary health care, emergency or rural and remote health would be highly regarded.
  • Ability to comprehensively assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships, open communication and a positive environment within a multidisciplinary team, actively contributing to the learning and development of others to a high standard.
  • Demonstrated high standard of written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to use or learn to use information systems appropriate to the position.
  • Ability to provide clinical education and support.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and contribution to quality improvement processes.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra). Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical
