Manager Systems Development Engineering - AWS Direct Connect

Amazon Support Services Pty Ltd - D05
Sydney Full-day Full-time

Description:

Are you interested in developing engineers and delivering automation to drive service transformation for the world’s most customer obsessed company?

At Amazon Web Services (http://aws.amazon.com), we run one of the largest and most complex networks in the world. We are blending industry trends into the critical foundation of utility computing: the network. Our goal is to become the infrastructure platform for the world, and our team provides and manages critical infrastructure to support a software-oriented network.

In AWS Direct Connect, we are looking for a Systems Development Engineering Manager to help us grow our organization. Our goal is to eliminate human intervention and errors from network engineering services, including initial deployment and sustaining operations. We look for innovative ways to automate and scale our network as we expand, while driving complex issues to resolution. In this role, you will manage a team of 6-8 systems development engineers to develop and improve configuration deployment systems and pipelines, build automation systems, and systems integration components across a complex and interconnected tool ecosystem, enabling network engineering teams to improve service delivery and continually scale the network.

Collectively working with adjacent teams and customers, your team will design, implement, and evolve the systems and automation that connects Amazon Web Services to external networks and the greater Internet. Your team will continuously identify areas of growth within the existing frameworks, tools, and processes to develop technical mechanisms to reduce waste and continuously improve. By reporting into an operations organization, you will be empowered to make significant impact and improvement to our overall operational excellence.

Inclusive Team Culture
Here at AWS, we embrace our differences. We are committed to furthering our culture of inclusion. We have ten employee-led affinity groups, reaching 40,000 employees in over 190 chapters globally. We have innovative benefit offerings, and host annual and ongoing learning experiences, including our Conversations on Race and Ethnicity (CORE) and AmazeCon (gender diversity) conferences. Amazon’s culture of inclusion is reinforced within our 16 Leadership Principles, which remind team members to seek diverse perspectives, learn and be curious, and earn trust.

Work/Life Balance
Our team puts a high value on work-life balance. It isn’t about how many hours you spend at home or at work; it’s about the flow you establish that brings energy to both parts of your life. We believe striking the right balance between your personal and professional life is critical to life-long happiness and fulfillment. We offer flexibility in working hours and encourage you to find your own balance between your work and personal lives.

Mentorship & Career Growth
Our team is dedicated to supporting new members. We have a broad mix of experience levels and tenures, and we’re building an environment that celebrates knowledge sharing and mentorship. We care about your career growth and strive to assign projects based on what will help each team member develop into a better-rounded professional and enable them to take on more complex tasks in the future.

- Build and manage a highly technical team, and develop a deep knowledge of your area in order to propose new designs for wider review.

- Take the lead in hiring quality personnel who not only fit the needs of the current organization, but also will allow the team to scale with platform and service growth.

- Own all facets of performance and career management for the team, including regular one-on-one meetings with team members, providing both technical and ‘soft skill’ mentoring in order to maintain a well-rounded, world-class organization.
