About us

North Academy is an independent, special assistance school that supports vulnerable young people who may have complex trauma, developmental and mental health needs. We specialise in trauma-sensitive education and offer small class sizes, shorter days, and a tailored approach for young people in years 9 and 10. 

 

About the role

The Wellbeing Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and delivery of school wellbeing services, supports and projects for students to achieve better quality educational and life outcomes. 

 

Snapshot of key responsibilities 

Operational Services 

  • Coordinate operational services including pastoral care, enrolment, attendance, child protection and the safe and supportive environment of students.
  • Support the Principal by providing data and reports in a timely manner. 
  • Being familiar with and comply with all relevant policies or procedures. 

 

Staff Supervision and Collaboration 

  • Provide supervision and management of student support workers, supporting them to build capacity, review performance, and inspire them in their professional growth. 
  • Create and foster a positive working culture for staff where team members feel safe and at ease to try new ideas and discuss concerns.
  • Work in collaboration with the Head Teacher, Teachers, Support Workers and student in the development of goals, strategies, and planning to assist with their school/life balance.
  • Lead meetings related to the wellbeing needs of the students/school e.g. weekly team meetings, regular meetings with the Head Teacher and Principal as well as ongoing communication with teaching and support staff. 

 

Student Wellbeing 

  • Establish and maintain connections with students and their parents/carers to enable identification of wellbeing needs. 
  • Liaise and involve parents, carers and key stakeholders in the development and wellbeing of the student, where appropriate. 
  • Establishing and maintaining links with relevant community support agencies, allied professionals, and school networks to optimise services available for students.
  • Management of critical incidents on site including immediate risk assessments. 
  • Coordinate and deliver programs that target student wellbeing in weekly wellbeing classes or whole school experiences. 
  • Write accurate case notes, meeting minutes and student plans.

 

NCCD & Learning Support Program

  • Have an extensive understanding of the NCCD process and underpinning legislations.
  • Lead the delivery and use of the Learning and Support program in TASS, as a centralised area for NCCD evidence. 
  • Collaborate and support the Head Teacher with entry, gathering and tracking of relevant NCCD data, including assessments, plan storage, Teacher NCCD program evidence and wellbeing information. 
  • Assist in recording student needs and adjustments through the IEP each term and maintain up to date records. 

 

Applicant Criteria

  1. Minimum Certificate IV qualifications in Community Services, Welfare, Youth Work, Social Sciences or Social Work (or similar). 
  2. Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) experience (or similar). 
  3. Experience in the management of staff. 
  4. Experience with the coordination of wellbeing programs, supports and service delivery.
  5. Effective high-level communication, interpersonal and advocacy skills. 
  6. A demonstrated interest in student wellbeing and experience working with disadvantage and at-risk young people.
  7. Knowledge of trauma, behaviour and mental health relevant to young people. 
  8. Knowledge of secondary schooling sector and adherence to all required legislative instruments and guidelines including child protection, attendance, enrolment, pastoral care, and the Disability Discrimination Act.

Contract Details 

Contract: Permanent fix term maternity leave cover 

Start date: 24/6/2024 (week 9 Term 2)

End date: 20/12/2024 (End of Term 4)

Work hours: Monday to Friday – 38 hours per week
