About Us

NextAero is a growing technology company developing bespoke fluid testing equipment for space, transport, energy, and the chemical sectors. We are growing and are looking for mechanical/aerospace engineers with an inclination or background in fluid engineering (heat and mass transfer) to join the team and support these efforts.

The successful candidate will be supporting the engineering of client hardware projects from concept, design, manufacture, installation, operations, and maintenance. You will be working in  small interdisciplinary teams to move precisely and quickly. The role is involved in all aspects of the engineering and testing prototyping process with hands-on hardware; from design and assembly to workshop and in-field testing.

NextAero is located in Clayton, Melbourne. On-site testing conducted in regional Victoria. Remote work is supported whenever practical, however many of the assembly and testing activities will be hands-on and will require commuting to one or both locations. Occasional week-long deployments to testing or client sites may be required 0-5 times per year.

Key Responsibilities

  • Development of designs and drawings.
  • Assembly of equipment to drawings.
  • Testing and debugging of equipment to achieve desired performance levels
  • Design and manufacture revision efforts where required.
  • Documenting engineering designs, decisions, and trade-offs.
  • Workshop maintenance/up-keep and machinery upgrades where required.
  • Communicate designs and requirements with internal stakeholders, both technical and non-technical.
  • Support project management in product delivery.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary qualification in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering, or similar.
  • Experience with design and assembly of mechanical systems, ideally some experience with fluid systems such as threaded fittings, valves, regulators, etc,.
  • Proficiency with hands on fabrication of mechanical systems and equipment
  • Demonstration of experience with a CAD system (Solidworks preferred but not essential)
  • Some proficiency with programming/scripting languages (Python preferred) and version control (git).
  • 1+ years of engineering experience preferred but not required
  • Demonstration of strong analytical skills in heat or mass transfer is an advantage.
  • Some experience with data acquisition systems such as National Instruments DAQs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstration of dedication to report writing and internal documentation of design choices.
  • Strong ability to break complex interacting problems down into key subsystems.
  • Proven track record of working independently, integrating with small teams, getting your hands dirty, and pushing through adversity to complete projects.
  • A history of hands-on projects is desirable, please provide a short slide portfolio of your completed projects to [email protected].
