Laboratory Manager, FNQH Pathology

Responsible for managing and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the FNQH Pathology anatomic pathology laboratory in Cairns, Far North Queensland to ensure the delivery of an excellent service to our referrers and patients. 

 

Some of your core responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Ensuring the laboratory meets set KPIs and criteria necessary for continued NATA accreditation.
  • Human Resources Management of laboratory staff including recruitment and retention in a regional location. 
  • Management of day-to-day office administration (e.g., building maintenance, budget, inventory, courier services etc.). 
  • Preparation and review of analytical reports, and ensuring documentation complies with professional standards.
  • Applying scientific and technical knowledge and expertise to oversee a range of routine diagnostic techniques and to introduce new methods.
  • Participation in risk management and reporting. 
  • Leading, mentoring, and developing a team of scientists, laboratory technicians and other staff.
  • Provision of professional services to local client groups and key stakeholders as part of business development.

Qualifications

  • Fellowship of the Australian Institute of Medical Scientists (or equivalent) by examination AND
  • Bachelor of Medical Science or equivalent that would be suitable for full professional membership of an appropriate professional society (AIMS- professional membership, HGSA – full membership, ASC - non-medical membership, AACB- Associate Member, ASM - professional membership).

Essential Requirements

  • At least five years’ relevant medical laboratory experience
  • Current National Police Clearance (NPC)

Desirable Criteria

  • Proven leadership and operational management skills and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with the implementation of quality improvement and risk management including an understanding of the relevant legislative and regulatory requirements in pathology laboratories.
  • Advanced knowledge and operating competency with Laboratory Information Systems, Microsoft Office applications and Quality Management Systems.
  • Commitment to excellent customer service with a high level of interpersonal and communication skills.
