About the role:
The Senior Accountant / Business Controller is a dual role comprising of key responsibilities for both the accounting and controlling functions in the business. There will be a hands-on accounting focus as well as reporting, forecasting & analysis as a controller.

Reporting directly to the Accounting & Controlling Manager, the Senior Accountant / Business Controller is responsible for executing the accounting operations for the group, focusing on the preparation and presentation of financial data for internal and external reporting, tax and audit governance, along with key financial analysis to ensure the integrity of the information provided. They are also responsible for the monitoring of cost, forecasts, and trends to recommend ways of improving profitability to support management to steer the overall business performance. 

 

Accounting:

  • Preparation of all statutory & financial accounts of the company including statistical returns for internal and external reporting and any other financial reports as required
  • Preparation of year end business consolidation
  • Annual impairment testing
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS at all times
  • Preparation and review of monthly tax calculations including BAS, ensuring tax compliance in all areas
  • Provide support to external tax advisors for income tax calculations, including international related party dealings schedule, transfer pricing, and country by country reporting
  • Be a key contributor and driver of the annual external audit ensuring minimal audit differences & recommendations
  • Improve the integrity of financial data working with other business units as required
  • Preparation of monthly and quarterly profit & loss and balance sheet reporting, including reconciliation of the general ledger together with the Financial Accountant

 

Controlling:

  • Business partner with respect to commercial problems as well as critical challenge of monthly and quarterly performance
  • Process owner for annual planning & quarterly forecasting
  • Generation and submission of all Group reporting for monthly, quarterly and year end closings within the target deliverable dates
  • Prepare management reporting including evaluation of actual performance vs target, analysis of deviations and financial control

Key Attributes: 

  • Degree qualified + CPA or CA
  • Sound knowledge of Australian accounting standards & principles and application of IFRS 
  • Sound experience in data modelling / reporting
  • Minimum 5 years experience in financial accounting working with ERP business systems
  • Experience working in an international organisation with a global head office would be beneficial
  • High level competency in Microsoft product suite (MS Excel inc Power Query)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of financial systems
  • Proven experience in a financial setting, displaying outstanding organizational skills with a key emphasis on driving process improvements.
