About the Person

In the role of Senior Firmware Design Engineer, the successful candidate will possess a broad range of firmware skills and experience with structured firmware development practices and fault finding. You must be comfortable with a “hands on” approach, willing to learn and show initiative, drive and enthusiasm. The ability to follow procedures and instructions accurately is critical, as is good written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail. The ability to work independently and part of a team is expected and the willingness to listen and learn from experienced team members.

The candidate will need to be skilled in problem solving, confident to ask questions and perform a hands on approach to the diagnosis and resolution of issues. Good skills in MS Office and firmware development packages is a must and the ability to prioritise their workload and be self motivated and driven.

 

 Key Responsibilities 

  • You will design, develop, and test firmware to specified requirements. Your tasks will involve:
  • Reading, understanding, and contributing to requirements, requesting and driving improvements where meaning is unclear.
  • Working with other engineers to determine product architecture, including hardware/firmware partitioning.
  • Estimating the best- and worst-case effort required to deliver your part in the design.
  • Designing to REDARC best-practice including version control, bug tracking, and documenting all deliverables with design decisions.
  • Re-using proven modules where available and suitable.
  • Simulating/prototyping to select/optimise topology, manufacturability, efficiency, quality, safety, protection, usability, testability, power dissipation, electromagnetic compatibility, and cost.
  • Facilitating frequent and timely reviews of designs and implementations.
  • Setting to work, testing, evaluating, and verifying performance of the implementation.
  • Designing to project plan, communicating effectively with product and project management to agree and document any changes in direction and/or timing.
  • Ensuring the implementation is verified against the specification and complies with relevant standards.

 

Qualifications

  • A Degree in Electronics or Software Engineering.
