Mainswest, in partnership with Western Power and Local Government, are undergrounding the overhead distribution network in Perth Metro areas and we are looking to expand our internal crews to cope with demand.

We are currently seeking an experienced Switching Operator / Electrical Supervisor with current Western Power switching authorisations to join our team on a full-time permanent basis.

The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, implementation and execution of all network access, switching, permit issuing, commissioning and coordination of overhead demolition and interface works on our underground power projects in the Perth Metro area.

Tasks will include:

  • Reviewing and interpreting contract documentation, including scope of works, HSE requirements, technical drawings and specifications.
  • Draft and Submit eNARs for various Minor Planned Interruption outage works such as works related to the consumer mains connections.
  • Issue EAPs and/or VA's for RIC's for works in close proximity to existing energised high voltage cables and equipment.
  • Scope and detail plan major outage works for energising HV and LV underground networks including careful management of LSE customers.
  • Liaison with cable jointers and Western Power Lab team for testing and commissioning WP HV and LV assets.
  • Review and approve all test sheets for commissioning equipment including but not limited the LV, HV cables, Transformers & RMU etc.
  • Testing and operating all OH and UG distribution equipment.
  • Collaboration with project supervisors and contracts administration to ensure compliance with all project document control and ISO management systems.

This is a diverse role which will see the successful candidate involved in projects from tender stage through to delivery and project close. You will have sufficient time to plan and execute the switching activities for the entire project whilst coordinating consumer mains installation and overhead demolition works packages to ensure efficient delivery.

As such the following experience is required:

  • Demonstrated experience in writing and safely executing complex switching programs that respect the integrity of the existing overhead network to interface the new underground installations.
  • Ability to program and plan activities to meet desired project outcomes including managing resources, equipment and sub-contractors through permit compliance to meet delivery requirements.
  • Effective and responsive communication between stakeholders including site teams, office team, clients and sub-contractors through regular meetings and reports.
  • Excellent organisation skills, with an ability to deliver results in a high-pressure environment whilst working on multiple projects.
  • A high regard for Health, Safety and the Environment is essential.

The following current qualifications are also necessary:

  • Western Power Accredited NAC, LOU, HOU, ENAR, RIC, 
  • ‘A’ Grade Electrical Workers Licence, 
  • Substation Entry Level 2, 
  • Underground service connection and Metrel Testing, 
  • UET Cert 3 – ESI Distribution Overhead,
  • Whitecard, FA, CPR and LV Rescue.

Pre-employment and ongoing alcohol and drug screening is conducted.
